Douglas Yeo, serpent, ophicleide, is the bass trombonist with
the Boston Symphony Orchestra and the Boston Pops Orchestra. Doug has
performed the Proctor Serpent Concerto with various orchestras
including the Boston Pops (with John Williams) and the Boston Classical
Orchestra (with Harry Ellis Dickson). In 2003, Boston Baroque released
its new recording of Handel's Music for the Royal Fireworks for
which he played serpent. In addition, he has published in the Historic
Brass Society Journal and presented lecture-recitals at the Historic
Brass Festival, the American Musical Instrument Society Meeting, and
the New England Conservatory of Music. Doug's bass trombone solo recordings,
Cornerstone, Two of a Mind, Proclamation, and Take 1 have
all received critical acclaim and, in his role as music director, the
New England Brass Band has released two recordings and received national
recognition. The Boston Globe has justly called Doug "The
major public defender of the serpent" from his past efforts to
bring recognition to the instrument. With the release of his serpent
recording, Le Monde du Serpent, Doug will far surpass this title.
