Commissioning new works for historical brass represents a major goal of Berlioz Historical Brass. Our first commission, Les Mots de Berlioz by Clifford Bevan, will be published by Piccolo Press and released during 2004. This composition is written for choir, buccin, ophicleide, serpent, and bassoon. A second composition by Bevan, Mendelssohn's Seasons, orchestrated for natural horn, trombone, English bass horn, ophicleide, and choir, will be published during 2005.

In addition, Berlioz Historical Brass has recently commissioned arrangements of sacred and secular works for early 19th century brass.

Messes Royales, Premier Ton, by H. DuMont realized by Peter Wilton according to early 19th century practices of neo-Gallican chant sur le livre for choir with serpent; to be published by the Gregorian Association.

Three Marches for Harmoniemusik (c.1833-34) by F. Mendelssohn arranged by Clifford Bevan for flute, clarinets, bassoon, horns, trumpets, trombone and English bass horn; to be published by Piccolo Press.

Divertimento in B flat (St. Antoni Chorale) by F. J. Haydn (?) arranged by Douglas Yeo for two oboes, two horns, three bassoons and serpent; to be published by Sarastro Press.

Commissioned and Assisted Music Editions

Commissioning new works for historical brass represents a major goal of Berlioz Historical Brass. Our first commission, Les Mots de Berlioz by Clifford Bevan, was published by Piccolo Press in 2004. This composition is written for choir, buccin, ophicleide, serpent, and bassoon. Berlioz Historical Brass then commissioned Bevan to prepare a performance edition of Three Marches for Harmoniemusik (c.1833-34) by F. Mendelssohn for flute, clarinets, bassoon, horns, trumpets, trombone and English bass horn. These editions are available from Piccolo Press.
